The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are well under way, and we are reminded of all the unique opportunities to ‘get moving’ in the water! Senior athletes from the Lutheran Community at Telford and The Community at Rockhill were inspired to gather this month to compete head-to-head in the Grace Inspired Living Summer Olympics.
Water sports are a staple in any Summer Olympics, and the same rings true for our residents. The Pool Games—one of many activities on our Life Enrichment department’s weeklong event schedule (shown below)—offered an opportunity for residents to use the ADA-accessible Aquatic Center at Lutheran Community at Telford; however, the same amenity can also be enjoyed at The Community at Rockhill. The Aquatic Center at Rockhill:
Our Wellness Center at The Community at Rockhill (CAR) is home to a heated, indoor pool and whirlpool tub. 
The pool is equipped with a chair-style pool lift for ADA accessibility, so residents of all abilities can swim or relax with little to no assistance.
The pool is one of many gathering sites for Rockhill residents. Whether they are joining in on a water aerobics class, playing a lively game of volleyball or swimming laps, the water is a great way to simply connect with other members of the community who have similar interests. Both residents and staff at our communities enjoy complimentary access to these particular amenities year-round without ever having to leave campus!
Exploring the Pool at Telford:
The Aquatic Center at Lutheran Community at Telford (LCT) features a long ramp and dual handrail that spans the near side of the heated pool to allow easy, walk-in access. Need a swim buddy? Ask the LCT Wellness staff about supervised swim times!
Hydro Fit & Stretch combines the best of both worlds: cardiovascular exercise and gentle stretching. This class is tailored to the physical needs of our residents, ensuring that everyone, regardless of fitness level, can not only participate but also benefit.
The fitness division of our LiveWell program at both communities offers a full roster of aquatics courses—here are a few samples from Summer 2024:
Aqua Fit (Mon. 1pm & Thurs. 9am)
This high-intensity class includes cardiovascular exercise, muscle strengthening and resistance exercise. Step up to the challenge and maximize your calorie burn by concentrating on cardio movement using a variety of equipment & water depths!
Gentle Waves (Wed. 1pm)
A beginner level workout focused on slow, gentle movements, highlighting range of motion and stretching combined with light cardio and muscle-building.
Dance Waves (Tues. 9am)
If you love to dance, but want to go easy on your knees, hips and feet, then this is the class for you. Think Zumba, but in the water, sprinkled with strengthening and fun!
